Gender and Education
The work elaborated by our dearest and remembered friend Julia Victoria Espín (1952-2006) about education and gender, have contributed to create this line of investigation. First of all, we would stand out Julia Espin’s profound preoccupation for a non sexist educational and professional orientation; plus her studies on the subject of sexism and publicity, and also, her methodological contributions in the elaboration of research instruments for the analysis of the gender bias and sexist’s stereotypes in language..
Nowadays, our interests are more centred for example, in the elaboration of investigations that might bring light to some theoretical approaches on relationships between genders. Along with, the necessity to develop different sorts of intervention processes that could help to reduce the discrimination by gender. And finally, we are involved in the crafting of non sexist pedagogical materials for general or specific purposes
In addition, we also dedicate a lot of our energies in the training of professionals, as well in the inclusion of a transversal gender analysis in the academic curriculums and in the creation of exchange nets between specialists
The highlighted outlines in this line of investigation are:
- To explicit the gender bias that still exist not only in the formal educational systems, as well in the general social sphere
- To counteract the discrimination by gender through interventions and educational proposals.
- To analyse the subtle variations that different forms of discrimination might adopt for gender reasons in our current social context.
- To analyse the gender based violence as the maxim expression of the hetero-patriarchal and to elaborate programmes of prevention and intervention in that field.
- To promote collective learning processes and knowledge production through feminist investigation methodologies. .
